Storms River Village gets an EV Charger

How can one resist the fruits of Storms River Village?

The Eastern Cape Development Corporation (ECDC), in conjunction with the Automotive Industries Development Centre (AIDC), have brought their Electric Vehicle Charger to Storms River Village and placed this fruit-of-desire right before the very eyes of electric- and hybrid-car owners.

Tsitsikhaya Lodge Manager, Marcell Adams played a pivotal role in bringing the parties together, choosing the site and along with expert stakeholders, he co-ordinated all the logistics – well done Marcel!

Hosted by Tsitsikhaya Lodge owner, Lesley Ann Cola, where our EV charger now resides, local invited guests got to mingle with the MEC: Department of Rural Development and Agrarian Reform, Ms Nonkqubela Pieters, together with the AIDC Board Chair, Mr Phumzile Situmane,  ADIC Eastern Cape CEO, Mr Thabo Shenxane, and our Ward 6 Councillor Nomathamsanqa (‘Thami’) Sikiwe.

As expounded upon by MEC Pieters, the Eastern Cape is the home to vehicle manufacture and has been ever since the arrival of FORD in 1923. By placing purposefully positioned EV Chargers in the province, it is hoped this will be one of many initiatives to attract further investment in the manufacture of full Electric and Hybrid vehicles, stimulating the economy and creating job opportunities. She went on to say, Storms River Village represents the epitome of balancing nature with a cleaner world through the reduction of carbon emissions caused by fuels. By attracting the EV/Hybrid traveller to the Village, should see an increase in those choosing to stay overnight and ‘discovering’ the Village for the first time and the knock-on effect this would have in increasing tourism here and the reciprocal effect of increased job opportunities.

Then it was time for MEC Pieters to cut EV’s ribbon, revealing all she has to offer.

Storms River Village can feel proud that they have the third of 130 EV chargers to be rolled out in the Eastern Cape. The other two have been strategically placed in Mthatha and Gqeberha.

Storms River Village serves as an important ‘connector’ for the discerning EV traveller. Travelling East to West, the Village represents a ‘last chance’ to charge up, ahead of a 570 km onward journey to Cape Town, while a ‘first chance’ when entering the Eastern Cape from the West. Tactically ideal!

It was suggested by an AIDC official that SANRAL be contacted to request them to erect a sign to inform the N2 EV traveller that they were a mere 600m away from our latest resident.

STORMS NPC considers it a privilege and honour to have been invited to this auspicious unveiling and launch.

A big shout out to Lesley Ann Cola and the team of Tsitsikhaya Lodge for their excellent hosting skills.
